Dr. Umar Johnson Visits JCSU Saturday

JCSU students hosted a film screening Tuesday in anticipation of world-renowned certified school psychologist Dr. Umar Johnson’s visit to campus. The screening took place in Grimes Lounge on Tuesday at 7:00pm and was followed by a lively discussion. World Renowned Certified School Psychologist Dr. Umar Johnson Returns to Charlotte, North Carolina: The “Getting Serious About Your Life After High School” Educational Series Dr. Umar Abdullah-Johnson will hold a seminar on Saturday February 21, 2015 at 11am-2pm for urban high school students and young adults. The event, which will be held at Johnson C. Smith University – Grimes Lounge – 100 Beatties Ford Road, will help urban teenagers and young adults create a plan to migrate through the challenges faced when transitioning to life after high school. During the event, students will receive information highlighting the importance of planning your future, achieving your dreams through determination, selecting the right educational path as well as how to successfully overcome educational learning disabilities and adolescent depression. “Getting Serious about Your Life after High School” is the first step in acquiring the tools your urban teenager needs to begin the process of planning this exciting new phase in their life. Dr. Umar Abdullah-Johnson is a Certified School Psychologist who practices privately throughout Pennsylvania and lectures throughout the country. As a school psychologist Umar evaluates children ages 3-21 in an effort to determine if they have educational disabilities and a need for special education services. Umar is considered a national expert on learning disabilities and their effect on Black children, as well an expert on helping schools and parents modify challenging behaviors that can ultimately lead to disruptive behavior disorder diagnoses in Black boys.
