QEP Jingle & Poster Contest

SING IT! RHYME IT! RAP IT!
The JCSU QEP “Jingle Contest”
Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) – Undergraduate Research
Purpose and Theme Description

Johnson C. Smith University has embarked upon a Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) as part of our reaccreditation process. The theme of the QEP is Undergraduate Research. The brand we are developing is #THISisRESEARCH. The purpose of our slogan involves expanding the limited views of research beyond only a science lab. The world of curiosity and discovery in the research process across the curriculum is endless. We will be developing this brand in various media displays, posters, music and forums throughout the year.
This lyrical poetry contest involves original vocal, rap or spoken words performed with/or without music. The composition must relate directly to the QEP topic, Undergraduate Research- and specifically the expanded notion of “THISisRESEARCH.” Remember, research is relevant and vital to all academic disciplines, including, but not limited to: humanities (English, history, languages, political science, psychology), science (math, biology, computer science), business, health & human performance, communications, visual and performing arts, criminology, and social work. The winning jingle from this contest will be an integral part of the marketing campaign for the QEP.
Rules for “QEP Jingle Contest” Submissions:

1. Song, Jingle, or Rap must promote a clear and positive message about Undergraduate Research across disciplines.
2. All types of song styles are allowable, and may be performed with or without background music.
3. The submission must use original and creative content.
4. Solos or Partner Creations are allowable. For example, one person may write the lyrics and score while the other person sings or performs the song.
5. Lyrics must NOT contain any profanity.
6. All submissions should be approximately 1-minute long. Submissions longer than 1 minute 30 seconds will not be accepted.
7. Lyrical Selection must be performed, taped and uploaded to You Tube. Emphasis areas in judging are primarily on lyrics, creative rhyme or prose and vocal qualities versus “performance” quality. You Tube allows for compatible submissions and may be marked “unlisted” or “public.”
8. Email your YouTube Link including the FULL NAMES and EMAILS/PHONE (basic content information) of those entering the submission to qepcontests@jcsu.edu by midnight January 13th, 2017
9. All submissions will be used by the QEP and submission lyrics and music may be separated in final product.
Judging Criteria
1. Judges will look for the winning submissions to be artistic, creative and to effectively communicate the message while being entertaining.
2. Must be consistent with JCSU Brand Guidelines – i.e. “This is Research” Notion
Winning Submissions: (All submissions will receive a #THISisRESEARCH T-shirt)

* The winning artist(s) will win Beats Earphones, or equivalent value gift card.
